Lira City, Uganda – Prominent Lira businessman and Ober clan leader, Geoffrey Etwop, has made an impassioned plea to the Lango community, urging them to embrace unity and reconciliation to build a foundation for lasting peace and prosperity.
In an exclusive interview with the Dokolo Post, Etwop called for an end to the longstanding divisions within the community, emphasizing that progress can only be achieved if the people of Lango put aside past disputes and work together.
“There is a need for the people of Lango to tighten the chain of unity among them and forget about what happened,” said Etwop, appealing for a “new chapter” in the community’s history.
“This is the time for Lango to come together and speak the same language of unity and peace if the region is to develop.”

Etwop highlighted the pivotal role that the Lango Cultural Institution plays in fostering a shared identity and sense of unity for the Lango people.
The institution, however, has faced challenges with recent leadership disputes that have caused rifts within the community.
Etwop’s message was clear: without reconciliation, the institution risks losing its significance as a unifying force.
“Witnessing it being ruined in bickering would set a bad precedent for leaders,” he warned.
With a call for a spirit of collaboration, Etwop advised against forming rival factions that could deepen divisions and delay progress in Lango.
“The people of Lango sub-region should embrace unity and reconciliation instead of resorting to organizing another clique, which may not help,” he said.
His remarks underscore the potential harm of allowing internal tensions to escalate, especially when unity is crucial to regional development.

Etwop’s appeal for peace and togetherness resonates beyond the current challenges, encouraging Lango to come together for the sake of future generations.
He believes that if the community can set aside differences and prioritize a shared vision, it will open doors to new opportunities for growth and cooperation, and ensure that the cultural institution stands as a strong symbol of Lango pride.
His words have already started to spark conversations among community leaders and members alike, with many viewing Etwop’s call for unity as an essential step toward revitalizing the Lango region.
As Lango looks to the future, Etwop’s plea for harmony and common purpose stands as a hopeful vision of what the region can achieve through peace and mutual respect.
