Dokolo’s PLE Exams Begin Smoothly Amid Concerns Over Absent Candidates

Dokolo, Uganda

Dokolo district’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) got off to a smooth start on Wednesday, with exam centres operating on schedule and all precautions in place.

However, the unexplained absence of five candidates has drawn the attention of education officials.

David Livingstone Okello, Dokolo’s District Inspector of Schools, confirmed that one candidate each from Angwecibange, Abenyo, and Ilong Primary Schools, as well as two from Iguli Primary School, missed their first two papers.

Okello expressed concern about the lack of communication from the parents or guardians, noting that schools had received no explanation for the absences.

Addressing community involvement, Okello advised local bars, churches, and other venues to avoid loud music during the exam period to help students maintain their focus.

“A supportive environment can greatly impact these candidates’ performance,” Okello emphasized.

Santos Okuja, the district’s Secretary for Health and Education, applauded the efforts of government and private schools to uphold a fair exam process.

Monitoring visits to key schools, including Dokolo, Akolodong, and Kachung Primary, confirmed that the exams began without any disruptions or signs of malpractice.

Okuja commended the resilience of the candidates and encouraged them to remain confident as they continue with their exams.

The missing candidates’ absence has highlighted the need for strengthened communication between families and schools, and officials are urging parents to stay engaged, especially as the long holiday season approaches.

Okello and other leaders emphasized the importance of involving children in constructive activities to prevent negative influences, focusing on how the community’s support can shape a successful future for Dokolo’s youth.
