Lira, Uganda – Lira City came alive on New Year’s Eve as thousands of residents gathered at the Mayor’s Garden for the much-anticipated cross-over prayers, a transformative event organized by the Lira Pastors’ and Elders’ Fellowship.
Led by Reverend Johnson Ogema of Victory Outreach Ministries, the evening’s theme, “Crossing into the New Year with a New Vision,” set the tone for a hopeful and purpose-driven 2025.
The atmosphere was electric as worshipers from all walks of life lifted their voices in prayer and praise, bidding farewell to 2024 and welcoming the new year with renewed determination.
Reverend Ogema, chairperson of the fellowship, urged the congregation to focus on self-improvement and unity across all sectors, from family to politics, agriculture, and leadership.
“…2025 is a year of opportunities…,” Reverend Ogema proclaimed. “…It’s time to craft a vision, trust in God, and work together to build a brighter future for Lango…”
He emphasized the need for spiritual, communal and personal reforms, encouraging the community to anchor their lives in faith and action.
Adding to the profound messages of the night, Reverend Thomas Mike Obong, General Secretary of the Fellowship, called for the region to reject divisive practices such as witchcraft, urging everyone to place their trust in God.
“…Witchcraft brings curses and stagnation…,” Reverend Obong warned. “…Let us seek blessings by walking in God’s light and following His will…”
Participants shared heartfelt testimonials about the significance of the cross-over prayers.
For many, this annual gathering is more than a tradition, it’s a moment of transformation and connection.

The event reached its spiritual peak as dozens of attendees stepped forward to dedicate their lives to Christ.

As fireworks illuminated the midnight sky and the crowd cheered in celebration, Lira City stepped boldly into 2025, united by faith and a shared vision for progress.
