Lira City – Lira Regional Referral Hospital is set to undergo a series of significant advancements, as Minister of Health and Lira City Woman MP Dr. Jane Aceng Ochero unveiled key healthcare projects aimed at elevating medical services in the region.

Among these are the commissioning of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ambulance and the inauguration of a cutting-edge Emergency Operation Theatre.
The ICU ambulance, a limited resource purchased by the Ministry of Health, is one of only a few allocated to hospitals including Mulago National Referral Hospital, Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, and Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.
The specialized ambulance will provide urgent care and transport for critically ill patients, offering safe and comfortable transportation during life-threatening situations.

Additionally, Minister Aceng Ochero inspected the progress of three important construction projects at Lira Regional Referral Hospital: the Laboratory, Oxygen Plant, and Ambulance Call and Dispatch Centre.
The Ambulance Call and Dispatch Centre, set for completion in August 2024, will enable rapid ambulance services across all Lango districts through a centralized communication system.
With the Oxygen Plant projected to be completed in August 2024 and the Laboratory by September 2024, these developments showcase the minister’s unwavering dedication to enhancing healthcare for the people of Lango.
In her remarks, Dr. Aceng Ochero announced the Ministry of Health’s plans to commence construction of Lira Regional Blood Bank and renovation works at Apac General Hospital and funding has already been secured for these projects, ensuring timely implementation.
As Lira Regional Referral Hospital undergoes this comprehensive transformation, Minister Aceng Ochero expressed gratitude to the Lira City voters for entrusting her with the Woman MP seat and reaffirmed her commitment to fostering development in the region.
The significant investments announced today herald a new era in healthcare for Lango, improving access and quality of care for the entire community.
