Lira City – During the Lango Regional Health Assembly at Magarita Palace Hotel, Minister of Health and Lira City Woman MP Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ochero called attention to the urgent need to address the increasing rates of teenage pregnancy in the region.

The two-day assembly, supported by the Ministry of Health, gathered leaders from across Lango to discuss pressing health concerns affecting the community.
The Demographic Health Survey report indicates that Lango ranks third among regions with the highest teenage pregnancy rates, following Bukedi (25%) and Busoga (22.6%), with a 22% incidence rate.
Minister Aceng voiced her concerns over these findings and emphasized the importance of immediate action to combat this issue.
Speaking to Wonyaci Elect, Dr. Eng. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, Aceng stressed the necessity of creating awareness and educating the public about the dangers of early marriage and teenage pregnancy.
She encouraged Okune to prioritize these initiatives upon assuming power in November 2024.
In response, Willy Omodo Omodo, representing Lango Cultural Institution, assured the assembly that Wonyaci Elect shares their concern and is committed to addressing the problem once in office.
While the Lango Regional Health Assembly serves as an essential platform for regional leaders to collaborate on pressing health challenges, Lira City Resident Commissioner Lawrence Egole took the opportunity to underscore the importance of unity among the people of Lango.
He urged citizens to refrain from destructive practices such as blackmail, which hinder development, and instead promote an environment of mutual appreciation and support.
As the assembly continues to address the critical issue of teenage pregnancy and other health concerns, Minister Jane Ruth Aceng’s unwavering commitment to promoting a healthier, more resilient Lango community remains steadfast.
