Lira, Uganda | Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH) on Monday, March 30, 2026, hosted a high-level delegation from Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH) for a benchmarking and experience-sharing visit aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery.

The delegation, led by Board Chairperson Dr. Paul Onek Awil, was taken on a guided tour of key hospital units, including the SANAS-accredited satellite laboratory, dialysis unit, intensive care unit, accident and emergency unit, and the newly established 45-bed capacity gynecology ward.

Speaking during the visit, LRRH Director Dr. Andrew Odur highlighted the core values driving the hospital’s transformation, patient-centered care, timely service delivery, cleanliness, and accountability.

Dr. Odur said the visit was a vote of confidence in the progress the hospital has made, adding that it also presents a challenge to sustain and continuously improve the high standards already set. He emphasized that knowledge sharing among institutions remains critical, noting that even small innovations can significantly improve service delivery.

Dr. Onek Awil applauded LRRH’s leadership, observing that the facility’s progress in patient care, diagnostics, infrastructure, and human resource management has set a strong example for other regional referral hospitals.

He noted that although Lira and Gulu operate at the same level, GRRH had consistently received reports highlighting Lira’s outstanding performance. According to him, the visit confirmed these reports, citing the remarkable level of activity and efficiency in service delivery at the facility.

Dr. Morris Ojara, representing the Director of GRRH, said LRRH was selected for benchmarking based on Ministry of Health Uganda performance data, which ranks it among the top-performing hospitals in the country.

He added that the delegation would adopt lessons learned in governance, partnerships, planning, and service delivery to improve healthcare outcomes in the Acholi sub-region.

Gulu Regional Referral Hospital becomes the third health facility to benchmark at Lira Regional Referral Hospital since January 2026, following similar visits by Jinja Regional Referral Hospital and Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, further cementing Lira’s growing reputation as a center of excellence in Uganda’s public health system.
