Katakwi, Uganda | Joy of purpose was exhibited by Christians of Getom Church of Uganda in Getom Sub-county in Katakwi District when they received a major relief of iron sheets.
The delivery of the 90 maroon iron sheets was done on Tuesday by Hon. Peter Ogwang, the State Minister of Education and Sports in charge of Sports and Member of Parliament for Ngariam County, for the construction of the parish priest’s house.
The donation was delivered by the Minister’s Personal Assistant, Mr. Michael Malinga, as Hon. Ogwang took the oath of office at State House, Entebbe.
Malinga said the gesture reflects the Minister’s pledge of consistency and grassroots service delivery.
“This is a show to the public that we are ready and committed to identifying and fixing problems that affect the community,” Malinga told the congregation. “The Minister’s message is clear: he’s coming to continue monitoring government programs as he engages directly with the people,” Malinga stated.
While receiving the materials, Rev. James Aloka, the Parish Priest of Getom COU, commended Hon. Ogwang’s intervention to buy and deliver the iron sheets for the priest’s house as notable.
“This will greatly improve pastoral work in the parish,” Rev. Aloka said.
Mr. Aboket Yeweri, the Chairperson for Planning and Development at Getom COU, applauded the Minister’s inclusive approach. Aboket noted that the community has been struggling to raise the 90 iron sheets for completion of the priest’s house, but surprisingly, Hon. Ogwang gave them.
“Issues of developed in churches makes Christians withdraw from church services or go to other sects because every time contributions is demanded they feel victims, but with the delivery of these iron sheets, our Christians are comforted,” Alice Ameso said.
This is the first community intervention Ogwang has done in his journey of 2026 to 2031.
