Ministry of Health Quells COVID-19 Panic, Confirms No New Outbreak in Uganda

Kampala, Uganda | The Ministry of Health has moved to dismiss mounting public fears over an alleged resurgence of COVID-19, confirming that there is no new outbreak in Uganda.

The response follows a wave of social media content featuring outdated video clips, which the Ministry described as a deliberate attempt by unscrupulous individuals to mislead the public.

In an official statement issued Wednesday, the Ministry clarified that Uganda’s COVID-19 situation remains stable and fully under control.

According to the release, the alarming content making rounds online is composed of old footage that has been recirculated to incite unnecessary fear.

The Ministry reassured Ugandans that there has been no resurgence of COVID-19 in the country since the major outbreak ended three years ago.

It emphasized that the national surveillance and response system, developed over time, is still active and fully capable of detecting and responding to public health threats.

Additionally, the Ministry noted that it continues to monitor global reports on new COVID-19 variants and is working closely with international health bodies and local stakeholders to ensure the continued safety of the population.

Officials emphasized that the country benefits from a strong, functional surveillance network that ensures timely detection and rapid response.

As part of its advisory, the Ministry encouraged members of the public exhibiting flu-like symptoms consistent with COVID-19 to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility.

It further urged citizens to uphold personal hygiene standards by washing hands frequently with soap and water or using alcohol-based sanitizers.

Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, stated that the Ministry remains fully committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of all Ugandans.

He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and not fall prey to misinformation circulating online.

Dr. Olaro also advised the public to depend on official channels for credible updates on the health situation in the country.

The Ministry concluded by calling on Ugandans to avoid panic and continue following public health guidelines, emphasizing that credible, timely communication would continue to be provided through official sources.
