Dokolo, Uganda – Dokolo South Member of Parliament, Hon. Felix Okot Ogong, has called on parents in his constituency to embrace and support local schools, rather than sending their children to distant regions for education.
Speaking on Sunday January 19, 2025, during his routine Sunday visits to churches in Dokolo South, Hon. Okot expressed concern that this trend was depleting family resources and contributing to poverty in the Lango sub-region.
He emphasized that the Lango region boasts highly equipped schools capable of providing quality education, including Okwongodul Lakeside SS, Kangai SS, and Kwera SS.
According to him, these institutions have the potential to uplift the standards of education in the region if fully supported by parents and local leaders.
MP Okot reaffirmed his commitment to the development of education and pledged his total support to local schools.
Additionally, he underscored the importance of church development, describing churches as critical pillars for community transformation.
During a fundraising drive, Hon. Okot made generous contributions totaling UGX 2.6 million to support various churches in the constituency which included;
° UGX 600,000 to Atwako Chapel,
° UGX 500,000 to Apenyoweo Yaweh Pentecostal Mission,
° UGX 500,000 to Ajaa B Victory Outreach Church, and
° UGX 1 million to Apenyoweo Holy Trinity Church.
Geoffrey Weja, LC III Chairperson of Okwongodul Subcounty, praised Hon. Felix Okot Ogong for fostering effective communication and collaboration with sub-county leaders.
He cited key achievements facilitated by the MP, such as the elevation of Anyacoto Health Centre II to Health Centre III, resolution of electricity challenges, and support for road construction projects.
James Otto Apili, LC5 Chairperson of Dokolo District, echoed similar sentiments, commending Hon. Okot for his selflessness and unwavering commitment to the district’s development.
The MP’s visits, which combined advocacy for education and community support, were lauded by church leaders and residents alike.
His contributions are expected to bolster the churches’ development and encourage parents to reconsider prioritizing local schools for their children’s education.
Hon. Okot concluded by reaffirming his vision for a prosperous Dokolo South, urging residents to join hands in fostering education and community growth.
