Dokolo, Uganda – Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament, Sarah Aguti Nyakori, has donated scholastic materials to 116 top-performing candidates of the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Dokolo District.
The donation, which included mattresses, boxes, and mathematical sets, was handed over during an event held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Dokolo District Council Hall.
While addressing the gathering, MP Aguti urged parents to desist from forcing their children into early marriages, warning that such practices jeopardize the future of the younger generation.
“I will continue supporting education by supplying examination materials to all primary schools in Dokolo District to help improve academic performance,” Aguti pledged.
Speaking at the event, Jimmy Awany, the political assistant to UPC party president Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote, encouraged parents across Lango to support and motivate teachers to achieve better academic results.
Meanwhile, Francis Ogwal Nam, the area councilor representing Okwongodul Sub-county, who spoke on behalf of the LCV Chairperson James Otoo Apili, appealed to parents to consider enrolling their children in affordable secondary schools within the district.
On his part, DL Okello, the Dokolo District Inspector of Schools, noted a significant improvement in the 2024 PLE results compared to 2023.
He revealed that the number of candidates who scored division U dropped from 900 in 2023 to 600 in 2024.
However, he pointed out that late reporting to school remains a major challenge affecting performance in government schools.
Parents, including Ronald Susan Oyede from Aneralibi Parish, Okwongodul Sub-county and George Ongom from Dokolo Town Council, applauded MP Aguti for her donation.
They expressed optimism that the support will greatly motivate learners and contribute to improved academic performance in the district.
