Kampala, Uganda | The Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Chris N. Mukiza, has been awarded the Rotary Award by the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda in recognition of his outstanding leadership and contribution to national development through statistical excellence.

The award was presented during a ceremony held at Statistics House in Kampala, attended by Rotarians from various clubs across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Speaking as chief guest, Mike Sebalu, who also serves as District Governor for Rotary District 9213 and is a member of the Rotary Club of Bukoto, commended Dr Mukiza for his exemplary leadership and commitment to professional excellence.

Sebalu noted that Dr Mukiza’s work reflects Rotary’s core values of integrity, service above self, and community impact, emphasizing the critical role of statistics in national development.

“Statistics are not just numbers; they are the backbone of decision-making,” Sebalu said, highlighting the importance of accurate and timely data in policy formulation, planning, budgeting, and service delivery.

He added that UBOS plays a central role in ensuring evidence-based planning, noting that Dr Mukiza’s leadership has significantly strengthened Uganda’s statistical systems and enhanced the credibility of national data.

Sebalu also outlined the award selection process, explaining that nominees are proposed by members, vetted by a board, and approved by the general assembly, describing Dr Mukiza as a deserving recipient due to his consistent delivery of high-quality statistical outputs.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr Mukiza expressed gratitude to the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda for the recognition, describing the award as a motivation to further strengthen Uganda’s statistical systems.

“This recognition reflects not only my individual efforts but also the collective commitment of the institution to excellence,” he said.

He noted that Rotarians rely on statistical data to support community initiatives, citing interventions such as the blood bank at Mengo Hospital and the cancer unit at Nsambya Hospital as examples of data-driven impact in improving public welfare.

Dr Mukiza reaffirmed UBOS’s commitment to providing reliable, relevant, and timely data to support national planning and decision-making, while encouraging staff to join Rotary clubs to expand their service and professional networks.

The President of the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda, Ann Kamugisa, praised Dr Mukiza’s leadership, noting that it has strengthened institutional credibility and positioned UBOS as a key pillar in Uganda’s development agenda.

She said the award reflects the club’s appreciation of his contribution to national progress and the positive impact of his work on the lives of Ugandans.
