The Ministry of Works and Transport has inspected the Ading Trading Centre–Abalodyang road in Kioga North County following lobbying by area Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ocen Kiring, paving the way for a planned rehabilitation of 8.1 kilometre stretch.

The inspection is expected to inform an emergency intervention aimed at addressing the deteriorating state of the road, which connects Aputi and Akwon sub-counties in the constituency.

According to information provided following the assessment, the ministry has allocated the 8.1km for the intervention, with implementation expected to begin after the road is contracted.

The road becomes severely submerged and impassable during the rainy season, disrupting the movement of residents and access to essential services, including health facilities, schools, and markets.

Residents in the affected areas have reportedly endured long detours to reach neighbouring communities and essential services, while the poor road conditions have also affected trade and other economic activities.

The ministry’s engineer, Mr Kule Bagonza, who led the inspection team, said the government was committed to rehabilitating the road.

Bagonza said the ministry had allocated 8.1kilometre stretch for the intervention and that works would begin after the contracting process, under supervision to ensure proper implementation.

Ocen Kiring, who witnessed the inspection, said he would continue engaging the ministry to secure further funding and interventions to improve road connectivity in Kioga North.

He said the planned rehabilitation would help ease movement between the affected communities and support socio-economic activities once the works are completed.

However, the commencement of the project will depend on the completion of the contracting process. The ministry is yet to provide a specific timeline for the start and completion of the works.

For residents who have struggled with the road’s condition, the planned intervention offers hope of improved access, although its impact will ultimately depend on the timely execution and quality of the rehabilitation works.
