Okere City CEO Ojok Okello to Battle Paul Omara for Otuke County MP

Lira, Uganda – Ojok Okello, CEO of Okere City, has officially declared his intention to run for Otuke County Member of Parliament in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking to the press on January 1, 2025, at Lira Mayor’s Garden, Ojok Okello outlined his reasons for seeking the position, emphasizing the need for strong, proactive leadership to address the long-standing challenges facing the people of Otuke.

Ojok Okello, driven by a commitment to community development, expressed his dissatisfaction with the current representation, stating that Otuke requires a leader who actively advocates for its growth rather than one who merely occupies a parliamentary seat.

He shared his vision for the constituency, which includes a focus on economic, educational, healthcare and cultural advancement.

A key aspect of Ojok Okello’s manifesto is the establishment of a sustainable shea nut oil industry in Otuke, with plans to process and market the product internationally, securing better prices for local farmers. Through his organization, Okere City, he is already taking steps to make this a reality.

In addition to economic empowerment, Ojok Okello aims to create laws that protect the shea nut trees from deforestation and ensure long-term profitability for local communities.

Ojok Okello is also determined to address Otuke’s education crisis, where statistics show that many children, especially girls, struggle to complete their primary and secondary education.

His plan includes expanding access to vocational training, with a focus on equipping young people, particularly drop-out girls, with practical skills like tailoring, carpentry, mechanics and driving.

So far, Ojok Okello’s initiative has benefited 150 girls and he plans to reach even more vulnerable youth in the coming years.

Health improvement is another priority for Ojok Okello, who intends to organize regular medical camps to provide essential healthcare services to underserved communities.

He also aims to preserve and promote the region’s rich cultural heritage as Otuke is a cultural hub for Lango, by organizing cultural festivals and events.

In agriculture, Ojok Okello plans to introduce irrigation farming and drought-resistant crops to combat the challenges posed by climate change and improve food security for the people of Otuke.

Ojok Okello’s decision to run for Otuke County MP comes at a crucial time when the community is in need of effective leadership.

His commitment to tackling the area’s key challenges like education, healthcare and economic development reflects a deep understanding of the people’s struggles.

Ojok Okello’s experience and vision for Otuke make him a leader committed to turning promises into real action.

For Otuke, 2026 could be the year for a new kind of leadership – one that’s focused on results, not just promises.
