Otuke: NRM Conducts Peaceful Grassroots Elections Across Sub-counties and Town Councils

By Geoffrey Odongo
Otuke, Uganda | The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) successfully held its grassroots elections for sub-county and town council chairpersons across Otuke District on Friday, as part of a nationwide exercise.

The elections, which covered all 14 sub-counties and town councils in the district, were conducted peacefully and orderly.

According to the NRM District Registrar for Otuke, Ouni Bonniface, the process went on smoothly with only a few minor concerns raised by some of the losing candidates, which he attributed to the normal dynamics of any election.

The polls were conducted using the lining-up method, where party members physically lined behind their preferred candidates.

In Otuke Town Council, Oding Denis emerged victorious with 58 supporters, defeating his closest challenger Tobby Enyel who secured 53 votes.

The other two candidates, Kere Joseph and Okwir Moses (popularly known as Shooters), managed 12 and 3 votes respectively.

Following his win, Oding Denis expressed appreciation to the people of Otuke Town Council for their trust in his leadership.

He encouraged the community to remain steadfast in their support for the NRM party and to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the country approaches the 2026 general elections.

He also hinted at his intention to contest for the Otuke Town Council LCV Councillor seat under the NRM banner, pending ongoing consultations.

The election in Otuke Town Council was supervised by the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Isaac Opio Opeo, who represented the office of the RDC.

He observed that the voting exercise was conducted transparently, beginning with the verification of party members from all parishes. The election was reportedly free of irregularities, with no formal complaints registered.

At the end of the day, several individuals were elected to lead the NRM structures at sub-county and town council levels.
