Dokolo, Uganda | Parents of Oyirogole Primary School in Kangai Subcounty have handed over the school’s headteacher, Peter Abac, to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Dokolo District following concerns over declining education standards.
During a meeting held at the school yesterday, attended by parents and local leaders, Abac was formally dismissed with immediate effect.
Sam Acai, the deputy headteacher, has been appointed interim headteacher pending the district’s deployment of a permanent replacement.
The parents’ action follows a letter dated 15 February 2026, which described Abac as “difficult to work with,” citing his refusal to hold Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, carrying a panga and bows & arrows on his body, allowing his animals to roam freely within the school premises, and ignoring parental concerns.
Eyewitnesses said that Abac was prevented from entering the school office but continued to plead for time to prepare his departure, assuring parents he would not interfere with the school administration.
Fred Lawrence Otim, Kangai Subcounty Chief, who represented the CAO at the meeting, pledged to compile a comprehensive report on the parents’ dismissal of the headteacher.
He also confirmed that recently transferred teachers would return to support improvements in teaching and learning at the school.
Rubby Ajwika, Coordinating Centre Tutor (CCT) of Amatiburu Trading Centre, representing the District Education Officer (DEO), warned other headteachers to be receptive to parental concerns to avoid similar incidents.
Daniel Okwany Kizza, LCIII Chairperson for Kangai Subcounty, commended the Oyirogole Chapel Council leaders for taking a bold step to restore education standards at the school.
Dickens Obote, LCV District Council representative for Kangai, said the dismissal should serve as a lesson to all government employees in Dokolo who neglect their duties.
According to reports, Peter Abac was previously dismissed from Adwila Morden Primary School before his transfer to Oyirogole Primary School in 2023.
