President Museveni Set for Three-Day Tour in Lango Subregion to Oversee Government Programs

Lira, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to visit the Lango Subregion for a three-day tour starting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, and running until Thursday, January 30, 2025.

The zonal tour, part of his nationwide regional visits, is aimed at assessing the implementation and impact of key government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), EMYOOGA, among others.

The tour follows similar visits to other regions, including Teso, Busoga, Bukedi, among others, conducted last year.

Ahead of the President’s visit, a high-level preparatory meeting will be held today, Monday, January 27, 2025, at 4:00pm, at Lira City Council Hall.

The meeting, convened by Ajuri County MP and Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua alongside State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Privatisation and Investment) Evelyn Anite, will bring together ministers, Members of Parliament, RDCs, LC V Chairpersons, CAOs, RPCs, NRM leaders, and security stakeholders from across the Lango Subregion.

Speaking to Dokolo Post, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua confirmed the President’s itinerary and emphasized the importance of ensuring smooth coordination for the visit.

“The President’s visit will include several key activities across Lango Subregion,” said Obua.

President Museveni will tour model farmers in Amolatar, Kole, and Lira Districts to assess the impact of government initiatives on agricultural productivity and livelihoods.


• Wednesday, January 29, 2025

He will inaugurate the Lango Presidential Skilling Hub, located behind Lira University. This facility aims to equip youth and women with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.

Later in the afternoon, the President will address local leaders in a high-level meeting in Kwania District, focusing on the implementation of government programs and future plans for the region.


• Thursday, January 30, 2025

President Museveni is scheduled to hold a public address at Alanyi Primary School in Abako Subcounty, Alebtong District, where a large gathering of local residents is expected.

Tentative Activities

Obua said President Museveni is to visit Barlonyo Memorial Centre in Lira District on Friday to honor the victims of the 2004 massacre.

Later on Friday: Groundbreaking for the long-awaited construction of the Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira City.

The confirmation of these activities is pending discussions between the State House Protocol Team and the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni.

Lango leaders are keen to maximize the President’s visit to address local challenges and highlight key achievements in the region.

Denis Hamson Obua, who is part of the national organizing committee for the Zonal Presidential Tour, emphasized that the visit underscores the government’s dedication to equitable development.

“This visit is a testament to the President’s hands-on approach to ensuring that government programs are effective in transforming lives. We look forward to welcoming him and showcasing the progress we have made,” Obua remarked.

The inauguration of the Lango Presidential Skilling Hub is one of the major highlights of the tour.

Located near Lira University, the hub is expected to provide training in vocational skills such as tailoring, carpentry, and mechanics, aligning with the government’s broader goal of creating job opportunities for youth and women.

Residents in Lango Subregion have expressed optimism about the President’s visit.

Many are hopeful that the groundbreaking for Akii-Bua Stadium will proceed as planned, marking a significant milestone for sports development in the region.

The visit to Barlonyo Memorial Centre, if confirmed, will serve as a poignant moment of reflection and remembrance.

The State House Protocol Team is finalizing the President’s itinerary, ensuring that all logistics and security arrangements are in place.

Local leaders have called on the public to turn out in large numbers to welcome the President and demonstrate the region’s commitment to national development.
