Lira, Uganda | Private primary schools have dominated the 2026 Lira City Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) mock results, with City Parents Primary School–Anai, Global View Primary School–Kitgum and Saving Grace Annex Primary School recording a perfect 100% Division One rate. The three schools had all their candidates attaining Division One, with 30 out of 30, 25 out of 25, and 16 out of 16 candidates, respectively.
St. Gracious Main Primary School followed with 74 out of 80 candidates (92.5%) in Division One, while St. Kizito Primary School posted 99 out of 110 (90%). City Parents Primary School recorded 41 out of 46 (89.1%), Truth Primary School 46 out of 52 (88.5%), Jireh Primary School–Pader and Loro Model Primary School–Oyam each 13 out of 15 (86.7%), while Saving Grace Primary School had 50 out of 67 candidates (74.6%).
Among the listed public schools, Adyel Primary School led with 40 out of 150 candidates (26.7%) in Division One, followed by Ireda Primary School with 22 out of 118 (18.6%), V.H Public School with 20 out of 143 (14%), Bar-Apwo Primary School with 12 out of 164 (7.3%), Olaka Annex Primary School with 11 out of 190 (5.8%) and Ngetta Boys Primary School with three out of 54 (5.6%).
Lira City Education Officer Canon Jane Obeny commended government and private school headteachers for their dedication to preparing learners for examinations and praised the organisers for conducting a professional assessment that closely followed Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) standards. She said the participation of more than 21 schools from outside the city showed growing confidence in the initiative and called for stronger coordination among districts.
However, Obeny expressed concern that five schools had not subscribed to the mock examinations, urging education authorities to make their names known so they could be contacted and engaged. She said schools that did not participate should not be hidden or ignored, arguing that transparency would help authorities understand their challenges, encourage participation, and ensure schools work together to improve education standards.
Obeny also urged headteachers and teachers to conduct examinations professionally, uphold discipline, and serve as positive role models for learners. She warned against misconduct, including alcohol consumption and examination malpractice, while urging teachers not to give up on candidates who performed poorly. Instead, she advised them to use the remaining weeks to review scripts, improve question-answering techniques, and provide targeted academic support ahead of the final examinations.
Lira City Senior Inspector of Schools Omara Tom Ronald hailed the improved mock examination results, saying they are better than the previous assessment and provided hope ahead of the November national examinations. He urged headteachers, teachers, and learners to use the results to identify weaknesses, intensify preparations, and improve performance, reaffirming the city’s commitment to supporting schools and the assessment board in promoting academic excellence.
The 2026 PLE Mock Assessment registered 6,470 candidates from 118 primary schools, compared with 5,311 candidates in 2025, representing a 21.83% increase. Of the participating schools, 94 were within Lira City, and 24 were from outside the city, comprising 23 private schools and one government-aided school. The assessment involved 3,091 boys and 3,349 girls, with girls forming the majority.
Overall, Division Two recorded the highest proportion of candidates at 43.7%, followed by Division Three at 17.9%. Division One and Division Four each accounted for 14.9%, while 5.9% attained Division U and 2.7% Division X. Overall, 58.6% of candidates achieved a moderate level of performance, highlighting the need for targeted academic interventions, particularly for candidates in Divisions U and X. The results were released on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Lira Primary School by the Executive Director Lira City Examinations Board Omonya Mapius.
