Dokolo, Uganda | A renowned media personality from the Teso sub-region, Eng. David Omara, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Kalaki County parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Eng. Omara, who has served in leading media houses such as Voice of Teso FM and Etop Radio, made the announcement on Sunday during an engagement meeting with members of the Dokolo Journalist Development Association (DJDA) held at Tourist Hotel in Dokolo Town Council.
Speaking to the journalists, Omara revealed that his decision to join active politics under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket stems from his desire to tackle youth unemployment and champion the empowerment of journalists in the region.
“…I have worked in media and the creative industry for years, and I have seen how much the youth and journalists are struggling. My mission is to uplift the youth, support journalism, and also give back to the community through a charity organization I’m starting to help orphans, widows, and the needy…,” he noted.
Eng. Omara also urged fellow journalists to uphold the principles of truth and professionalism, warning them against being swayed by external influences.
“…As journalists, you must report what you have seen on the ground. Stand by the truth, even if it’s not popular. It is the only way you will earn the respect and trust of the people…,” he added.
During the meeting, John Robert Ekaduthe, the male area councillor for Kamidakan Parish in Apapai Sub-county, Kalaki District, commended the journalists for their unity and encouraged them to remain organized in order to attract support and empowerment from various stakeholders.
Isaac Ejau, the Vice Chairperson of Dokolo Journalist Development Association, called upon community members and leaders to collaborate with the media for the sake of development.
“…Media plays a key role in shaping communities. We call on all stakeholders to trust and coordinate with us so that we can promote development together…,” Ejau said.
The Dokolo Journalist Development Association, which was founded in 2020, currently has 28 registered and active members and continues to be a strong platform for media practitioners in the region.
