Lira, Uganda | Sam Engola, a senior member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has expressed strong confidence in winning the upcoming election for NRM Chairperson of Lira District for the 2025–2030 term.
While addressing journalists at Majan near Amach Market on Friday, 16 May 2025, Engola commended the recently concluded elections for NRM Subcounty and Town Council Chairpersons across Uganda, describing them as peaceful and successful.
Engola, who voted in Awiodyek Subcounty, said the smooth conduct of the exercise reflected growing discipline and unity within the party.
He called on members to maintain the same spirit as they head into the district-level elections scheduled for Friday, 23 May 2025.
He noted that he is among the candidates contesting for the district chairmanship and expressed strong optimism that he would win with a margin exceeding 90 percent.
He encouraged NRM supporters in the district to vote for him, promising to provide focused leadership rooted in party values and grassroots development.
Engola also reminded the public of his intention to contest for Member of Parliament for Erute South County in the 2026–2031 term.
He urged voters to support his bid when the time comes, pledging to offer transparent, inclusive, and impactful representation.
He stressed the importance of electing leaders with deep grassroots ties and a practical understanding of community needs.
He explained that his agenda includes strengthening party structures, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring NRM success across all positions in the 2026 general elections.
Okello Emmanuel, a staunch NRM supporter, emphasized the need for loyalty to NRM and to the legacy of President Museveni, especially in regions like Lango, which have benefited from government interventions.
Okello cautioned against internal divisions and advised party members to remain vigilant against infiltration and disunity.
Supporters across the district have warmly embraced his candidacy.
One mobilizer from Amach, David Ojok, said that voters are determined to give Engola overwhelming support due to his experience and strategic vision.
Similarly, Sarah Akello from Awiodyek commented that Engola’s renewed involvement in active politics has re-energized the party’s grassroots base in the area.
The district-level NRM elections are expected to play a significant role in shaping the momentum of political mobilization ahead of the 2026 national polls.
