Lira, Uganda | St. Gracious Secondary School has made history after posting a remarkable performance in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results, with 25 candidates scoring the maximum 20 points.
The achievement is believed to be the first of its kind in the Lango subregion and unmatched by any school in Northern Uganda, placing the institution among the few schools nationwide to attain such an outstanding record.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, the school headteacher Martin Ojok Anyuru confirmed the results and described them as a major milestone for the institution.
Anyuru said that apart from the 25 candidates who scored 20 points, 18 candidates obtained 19 points, 22 scored 18 points, 32 got 17 points, 37 scored 16 points, and 45 obtained 15 points, among other impressive grades.
A total of 489 candidates sat the 2025 UACE examinations at the school, a number he said demonstrated the growing confidence parents have developed in the institution.
He explained that the large candidature reflected the trust parents had placed in the school, noting that only a few schools in the region had consistently performed well over the last five years.
Anyuru pledged that the school would continue strengthening its academic programmes to ensure students excel, secure government scholarships to universities and later compete effectively in the job market after completing their studies.
He said such strong performance would encourage more students from Lango subregion to pursue university education instead of branching into short courses after Senior Four.
Anyuru noted that when learners proceed to A’Level and eventually join university, they become better positioned for competitive employment opportunities, which could also reduce the trend of young people taking up minor jobs.
He also encouraged students to pursue higher academic qualifications by enrolling for Master’s programmes after completing their first degrees.
The headteacher attributed the school’s success to the dedication and hard work of teachers, particularly those handling Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (BCM), whom he credited for ensuring that many candidates excelled in the science combination.
He further appealed to parents to abandon the mindset of sending their children to schools in Kampala, noting that many institutions within the region were capable of delivering quality education.
Of the 25 candidates who scored 20 points, 11 are girls and 14 are boys, while 15 of the top performers were studying on bursaries offered by the school.
Some of the top scorers include Achar Timothy, Awio Isaac, Amule Robinah, Aguti Vella Owiny, and Amono Ruth, among many other candidates.
Other schools in the Lango subregion that registered notable performances in the 2025 UACE results include Wisdom High School, which produced eight candidates with 20 points, Dr. Obote College Boroboro, which recorded three candidates scoring 18 aggregates. Mentor Secondary School and Dara Christian High School also posted notable results.
