Wakiso, Uganda | A key suspect linked to a wave of violent robberies and murders across multiple regions in Uganda has been arrested following a well-coordinated security operation in Kasangati, Wakiso District.
On the night of May 9, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m., police in Kasangati, supported by sister security agencies, conducted an intelligence-led operation in Bulamu Cell, Kasangati Town Council.
The operation led to the arrest of Imanantireganya Alfadudu, commonly known as “Congolese”, a suspect believed to have orchestrated several aggravated robberies and killings in the Kampala Metropolitan Police area, Busoga East, Busoga North, Elgon Region, Ssezibwa, and other parts of the country.
During interrogation, Alfadudu confessed that he and his accomplices — identified only as Mozy, Mapengo, and others — were behind numerous robberies carried out using a SAR rifle.
He revealed that the weapon was usually hidden at the home of Ivulungo Bumali in Girigiri Village, Maina Parish, Mpungwe Subcounty, Mayuge District, after each mission.
Based on this confession, a joint security team swiftly proceeded to Mayuge District, where they searched Ivulungo’s residence. The operation led to the recovery of the SAR rifle, along with two hammers, a knife, and several jackets suspected to have been used in the criminal operations.
Ivulungo and his wife were arrested and are currently in custody to assist with further investigations. Initial findings indicate that the recovered rifle had been stolen during a robbery in Mukono in October 2024, strengthening suspicions of the gang’s involvement in a broader criminal syndicate.
Police have confirmed that operations are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the entire network.
Security agencies have praised the success of the operation and reassured the public of their commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
The arrest marks a significant step in the fight against armed criminal gangs operating across regional boundaries in Uganda.
