Dokolo, Uganda | Schools in Dokolo District are facing a critical shortage of teachers, with some schools left understaffed after several transfers, a local priest has warned.
Rev. Fr. Daniel Olila of Agwata Catholic Parish said that many teachers are being moved to other schools without replacements being posted. He noted that at Amuda Primary School, three teachers were recently transferred, leaving the remaining staff to manage more than 120 pupils across Primary 1 to 7. He added that this situation is a serious challenge that needs urgent attention if education standards in the district are to improve.
The priest made the remarks during the final send-off of Fredrick Okello Oguti, a teacher at Acoto Primary School, held on Thursday, 26 February 2026, at Akolodong Parish.
Addressing mourners, MP-Elect for Dokolo North County, Joseph Jones Ogwal, urged political actors to forgive one another, noting that the recent elections had left many people with emotional wounds that required healing. He said leaders should focus on work that directly benefits their constituents and added that the PDM initiative would now reach every household, improving on past implementations.
Also speaking at the event, George Ojwang Opota, Omola-col Odyek Onywal Iceng Clan Chief (Awitong), advised road users to exercise caution. He pointed out that 30% of drivers and riders in the Langgo subregion operate without valid permits and emphasized that drivers carrying more than two passengers should prioritize the safety of those on board.
Fredrick Okello Oguti was born on 23 July 1968 in Amwoma, Dokolo District. He trained at Alemere PTC in 1992 and taught at four schools in the district. He is survived by 1 wife, 12 children, and 13 grandchildren. On 12 February 2026, he was involved in an accident and passed away six days later at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
