Oyam, Uganda – A long-standing feud between Hon. Walter Atoo, the LC5 councillor for Ngai Sub-County, and Phillips Ogile, the LC3 chairman of Abok Sub-County, has finally come to an end.
The two politicians, previously known for their fiery exchanges on social media platforms like WhatsApp, reconciled during a thanksgiving prayer on Sunday.
The event, held at the home of Oyam’s Secretary of Education, Hellen Beatrice Auma Okello, in Ngai Trading Centre, provided an opportunity for the leaders to mend fences and pledge to work together for the benefit of their communities.
Hon. Atoo acknowledged that their disagreements stemmed from criticism leveled against him by Ogile over the failure to rehabilitate a dilapidated road.
He explained that the issue was beyond the district’s financial capacity to resolve.
In response, Ogile stated that their disputes were meant to inspire positive change rather than cause division.
He used the occasion to urge fellow politicians to prioritize unity and avoid letting political differences sow discord.
The reconciliation was warmly welcomed by Benson Dila, the LC5 chairperson of Oyam District, who emphasized the importance of love and cooperation in politics.
“Politics should be about serving the people with a united front, not creating divisions. I applaud Atoo and Ogile for demonstrating leadership through this reconciliation,” Dila said.
The public spat between Atoo and Ogile had drawn widespread attention, with many residents concerned that their differences were affecting the delivery of services.
Their reconciliation has now renewed hope for collaboration and progress in both Ngai and Abok sub-counties.
As the leaders pledged to put their communities first, residents expressed optimism that this newfound unity would translate into tangible development.
Many also praised the role of the thanksgiving prayer in fostering peace and dialogue.
This event serves as a reminder that even the most heated disputes can be resolved through open communication and a shared commitment to the common good.
