Alebtong, Uganda – The Parish Development Model (PDM) continues to transform communities in Uganda, with Alebtong District emerging as a strong beneficiary of the government’s ambitious economic empowerment program.

In fulfillment of PDM Pillar 7 (Mindset Change & Community Mobilization), local authorities have disbursed a total of UGX 14.26 billion to 14,664 households across the district.

According to Mathias Lutwama, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong, the funds have been strategically distributed among key social groups, ensuring that women, youth, men, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) actively participate in wealth creation through agriculture and animal husbandry.

Recognizing the central role of women in social and economic transformation, the PDM program in Alebtong has prioritized female-headed households.

A total of 7,312 women have received UGX 7.1 billion, each receiving UGX 1 million to invest in various income-generating projects. Women’s participation is expected to boost household resilience, food security, and savings culture.

With the government’s push for agro-industrialization, the youth have been identified as key drivers of rural development.

In Alebtong, 3,477 young people have benefited from PDM, with a total of UGX 3.38 billion disbursed to support their agricultural ventures. By equipping youth with financial support, the government aims to curb unemployment and promote self-reliance among the younger generation.

To harness the economic potential of processing and marketing, men—who are traditionally considered household heads—have also been incorporated into the PDM framework.

A total of 7,345 men have received UGX 1.773 billion, with each beneficiary receiving UGX 1 million to invest in value addition and agribusiness enterprises. This initiative is expected to increase productivity and market access for agricultural products.

In a move to ensure equal opportunity for all, Alebtong District has prioritized the inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the PDM program. A total of 211 PWDs have benefited from UGX 205.5 million, each receiving UGX 1 million.

By targeting agriculture and animal husbandry projects, the program is fostering self-sustaining rural economies, reducing poverty, and enhancing food production.

RDC Lutwama reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring proper utilization of funds and urged beneficiaries to invest wisely to create sustainable wealth.

He also emphasized the need for continuous monitoring to prevent misuse and ensure long-term impact.
