IGG to Storm Alebtong May 20 in Anti-Corruption Drive, Citizens to Speak Out at Public Baraza

Alebtong, Uganda | The Inspector General of Government (IGG) is scheduled to visit Alebtong District on Tuesday, 20th May 2025, in a high-level engagement aimed at enhancing accountability and promoting citizen participation in governance.

According to a public notice issued on Sunday May 18, 2025, by Deputy Resident District Commissioner (D/RDC) Mathias Lutwama, the IGG will first hold a closed-door meeting with district officials at 9:00 AM at the Alebtong District Council Hall.

This session will focus on strengthening institutional integrity, transparency in service delivery, and evaluating the performance of public officials.

At 10:00 AM, the IGG will preside over a Public Baraza at Aloi Town Council, where citizens will have the opportunity to directly raise concerns and interact with the national anti-corruption authority.

The following leaders have been officially urged to attend the day’s events:

1. Rt. Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, Government Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Ajuri Constituency
2. Hon. Okwir Odwee, Member of Parliament for Moroto Constituency
3. Hon. Dorcas Acen Imat, Woman MP, Alebtong District
4. D.K. Odongo, Alebtong District Chairperson
5. Olaboro Franco, Chief Administrative Officer
6. All members of the Alebtong District Security Committee
7. All Heads of Department in Alebtong District Local Government
8. All District and Subcounty Councillors
9. All LCIII Chairpersons and Town Mayors across the 14 local government units
10. All Senior Assistant Secretaries and Town Clerks in the 14 LG units
11. All Parish Chiefs and Town Agents from the 69 administrative units

The D/RDC noted that the Public Baraza is open to all citizens, and he encouraged residents to attend and actively participate by voicing their concerns on issues such as corruption, delayed service delivery, and inefficiencies in local government.

He added that the IGG’s visit is part of a nationwide initiative to strengthen public trust in government institutions by ensuring transparency and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

Lutwama further stated that this was a significant moment for Alebtong District and called upon all invited leaders and the general public to turn up in large numbers to ensure the engagement is meaningful.

The IGG’s visit comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to fight corruption at all levels, and Alebtong is expected to set a precedent for citizen-led accountability in the Lango sub-region.
