Lira, Uganda – The Vicar General of Lira diocese Monsignor Valente Innocent Opio has sounded the need for those in authority to use their positions to render effective service to humanity in a bid to transform their communities.
Speaking on the January 15, 2025, during the Eucharistic celebration on the second day of the diocesan pastoral council taking place at Ngetta Catechetical Pastoral Center, the vicar general disclosed that those in authority are all called to follow example of Jesus the Lamb of God who sacrificed Himself at the service of humanity and His life for the salvation of Mankind.
He continued that just like Jesus who taught in the synagogues, offered healing to people, a sign of God’s love upon His beloved children.
The Vicar General noted that we share in the authority of Jesus Christ which is important for any baptized child of God to use it for the growth of one another instead of being selfish.
He went on to say, it is important for each one to be aware about their roles, authority God has granted, adding that it is vital to reflect on how we use and exercise our roles for the common good of all.
Monsignor Opio, who doubles as the administrator of St Philip Neri Sub Parish, Erute in Lira city, further noted that it is regrettable that sometimes we use the power given to us by God to cause havoc in the society, mentioning that instead, we must give proper sense of direction and guidance to the people.
Misuse of authority and power is; according to the Vicar General, equated to the presence of evil spirit among us when we still observe elements of jealousy, hatred, gossip and more still existing among the people of God.
Instead, the Vicar said, we should exercise true love for one another, to show that we are truly children of God and His genuine disciples.
He challenged the participants to recognize the presence of God in their lives in a move to have transformation in their lives.
He concluded by asking the congregation to pray to God that they may be cleansed from their spiritual infirmities among others.
