Katakwi – Vice President Jessica Alupo has commissioned the UGX 937 million Akoboi Health Centre III in Akoboi Sub-county, Katakwi District, marking a significant step forward in improving healthcare access for the local community.
The health centre, which includes a maternity ward, a two-in-one staff house, pit latrines, a laboratory, and a placenta pit, was funded jointly by the Government of Uganda and the World Bank.
This accomplishment comes just months after the Vice President commissioned the Koritok Health Centre III in Usuk Sub-county, made possible through the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT) at a cost of UGX 1.2 billion.
Dorothy Asio, the in-charge of Akoboi Health Centre III, revealed that construction of the facility began in February 2023, with the goal of enhancing healthcare services for residents in the area.
The centre’s upgraded infrastructure and expanded services are expected to play a vital role in improving health outcomes and overall quality of life for the people of Katakwi District.
As part of her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, Vice President Alupo also distributed 1,450 mosquito nets to beneficiaries under the Poverty Alleviation Program (PAP) in Katakwi Town Council.
This initiative aims to combat the spread of malaria and other vector-borne diseases, further promoting the health and well-being of citizens in the region.
The commissioning of the Akoboi Health Centre III and the ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure demonstrate the government’s dedication to ensuring accessible, high-quality healthcare for all Ugandans.
