The disturbing event came to light following the circulation of a viral video on social media, prompting the police to open a general inquiry file on June 23, 2024.
The victims, who are pupils at Butegere Primary School, were accused of stealing firewood from the school premises. In the aftermath of the accusation, their mother reportedly paid a teacher Shs30,000 to retrieve the bicycle that was being used in the incident, but was asked to pay an additional Shs70,000.
On June 20, the watchman, identified as David Kitungulu, who is also the uncle of the victims, took the juveniles to the school where he allegedly flogged them severely in the presence of the headteacher, supposedly as a form of punishment.
During the distressing incident, a concerned teacher, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, filmed the entire ordeal, pleading with Kitungulu to halt the torture.
According to Michael Kasadha, the Regional Public Relations Officer, the video of the alleged torture incident has been widely shared on social media platforms, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The victims have since undergone medical examinations, with further investigations still pending.
