Lira, Uganda – Wiodyek Sub-County leadership has launched an initiative to reward the best-performing pupils in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The first edition of the program took place at Amokoge Primary School on February 11, 2025, where 15 top pupils were honored with essential items such as mattresses, books, pens and bed sheets.
The initiative, spearheaded by LC III Chairperson Gilbert Okwir, is set to become an annual tradition aimed at motivating pupils and bridging the academic performance gap between rural and urban schools.
Okwir emphasized that the sub-county leadership is committed to improving education and ensuring that pupils in Wiodyek receive the support they need to excel.
Among those who applauded the initiative was Joel Agabi, the councilor representing the elderly, who reaffirmed the leaders’ commitment to strengthening education.
He emphasized that such programs would encourage better performance in schools across the sub-county.
Sodrick Ogwang, another community leader, praised the pupils for their hard work and urged parents to continue investing in their children’s education to secure their future.
The event also attracted Joshua Okwada, popularly known as Akwaranam, a news anchor at Rhino FM and an aspiring councilor for Amokoge Parish.
He commended Gilbert Okwir’s leadership and called on parents, teachers and fellow leaders to work together in ensuring that academic standards in Wiodyek continue to rise.
This initiative is expected to increase school enrollment, improve retention rates, and create a competitive learning environment in Wiodyek Sub-County.
