Who is Ojok Okello? The Visionary Behind Okere City and Rural Transformation

Ojok Okello is a rural futurist, development worker, community builder and politician.

As the founder and CEO of Okere City, he is on a mission to transform rural Uganda into a model of sustainability and innovation.

Born and raised in Otuke District, Northern Uganda, Ojok has dedicated his life to empowering communities through education, economic development and governance.

His work with Okere City, a groundbreaking rural development project, has directly impacted over 7,000 people and garnered global recognition from CNN, The Guardian and The Christian Science Monitor.

With a strong academic background, Ojok holds a Master of Science in Development Management from the London School of Economics (LSE) and is a Fulbright Humphrey Fellow at Cornell University.

His professional journey includes roles with War Child UK, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and Makerere University, where he spearheaded initiatives in governance, refugee support and post-conflict reconstruction.

His development philosophy is rooted in self-reliance, innovation and community-driven progress.

Ojok’s work in shea farming, youth empowerment, education and infrastructure development has set a benchmark for sustainable rural transformation in Uganda.

In 2025, Ojok declared his candidacy for Member of Parliament for Otuke County in the 2026 elections, aiming to scale his success with Okere City to a larger level.

His ten-point manifesto prioritizes improving education, healthcare, agribusiness, road networks and governance reforms to make Otuke a model district for sustainable development.

His campaign slogan, “For Otuke. For the Future. For Us All.”, reflects his commitment to driving bold, innovative and accountable leadership.

Ojok Okello with a proven track record in rural development, is poised to redefine political leadership in Uganda, shifting focus from dependency to empowerment and progress.
