Oyam, Uganda – Healthcare service delivery in Oyam District is set for a major uplift following the launch of a transformative staff housing project at Acimi Health Centre III in

World Vision Uganda, in collaboration with Blue Mountain Australia, has initiated the construction of two blocks of staff houses, a long-overdue intervention to address the accommodation crisis affecting health workers.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on February 17, 2025, was officiated by key stakeholders, including Oyam District Chairperson Benson Walter Dila Oyuku, Chief Administrative Officer Kitutu Frederick Herbert, and Kamdini Sub-County Chief Walter Oceng.
Representing Blue Mountain Australia, Mr. Riedly and Mieke Bell laid the foundation stone, highlighting their commitment to empowering local communities through sustainable development.
The project, with funding exceeding UGX 700 million, aims to enhance healthcare services at Acimi Health Centre III, which caters to over 1,300 patients each month.
The lack of adequate staff accommodation has long been a pressing challenge, affecting the efficiency and availability of healthcare personnel.
Speaking at the event, Mieke Bell emphasized the need for socially responsible investments, encouraging privileged individuals to contribute to community welfare.
“Real progress comes when we uplift those around us. Every act of kindness fosters a healthier and stronger society,” she noted.
District Chairperson Benson Walter Dila Oyuku praised the initiative, describing it as a crucial step in improving health service efficiency.
“Having staff on-site will ensure faster response times to emergencies and enhance overall service quality,” he stated.
He further lauded World Vision Uganda for its consistent support in fostering development within Oyam District.
Chief Administrative Officer Kitutu Frederick Herbert reassured the public that the district leadership would oversee the construction process to guarantee accountability and quality.
“This is a much-needed intervention, and we are committed to ensuring its successful completion and long-term sustainability,” he asserted.
World Vision Uganda Country Program Director Richard Rumsey reiterated the organization’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure.
He called on community members to safeguard construction materials and ensure the sustainability of the project.
“Development is a shared effort; protecting these investments guarantees long-term benefits,” he emphasized.
With the completion of the new staff houses, Acimi Health Centre III is expected to see a significant improvement in service provision, offering better working conditions for health professionals and enhanced medical care for the community.
This milestone marks another chapter in Oyam’s journey toward a more robust healthcare system, powered by collaboration and community engagement.
