Dokolo, Uganda – The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has started its membership registration drive in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
The exercise was confirmed by Dokolo District UPC Chairperson, Angilous Ocen Ogwal, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, during a press briefing at his office in Dokolo Town Council.
According to Ocen, the registration, which began in February and will run until March, is open to all individuals aged 18 and above, including those defecting from other political parties.
He explained that the exercise aims to create a UPC membership database ahead of the elections.
He emphasized that registration is free of charge and warned party registrars against extorting money from the public.
Meanwhile, Dokolo District UPC Women’s League Chairperson, Janet Ojok, urged men to support their wives in participating in the exercise, noting that women’s political involvement is crucial for development.
Richard Ocet, the district UPC Vice Chairperson, called on all aspirants to register, as this is a requirement for those seeking to contest in the party’s primary elections.
He also urged party registrars to adhere to the guidelines and not block new members who wish to join from other political parties.
The registration exercise is expected to strengthen UPC’s presence in Dokolo as the party gears up for the upcoming elections.
