17 Kyambogo University Students Suspended Over April 23 Protest

Kampala, Uganda — Seventeen students at Kyambogo University have been suspended for one month over their involvement in a demonstration that disrupted normal university operations on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

According to an official notice released by the university management on April 29, 2025, the disciplinary action is in accordance with Regulation 40 of the Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations.

The suspension takes immediate effect and will last for one month, during which the students are barred from appearing on university premises.

The notice further states that the affected students will undergo a formal disciplinary hearing before the Students’ Affairs and Welfare Committee to determine any further action or reinstatement.

The university has emphasized that during the suspension period, the listed students must not access any university facility and are expected to comply fully with the directive pending the disciplinary hearing.

This suspension marks a strong stance by Kyambogo University management against disruptions to academic and institutional processes. No further comment was provided on the nature or cause of the April 23 demonstration.
