Lira, Uganda – In an effort to transform education access in Lira District, 31 students from Agweng Town Council have been awarded full scholarships to pursue further studies in the career of their choices.
This life-changing opportunity, facilitated by Benard Ogwal Atin Acan, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Erute North Constituency, has sparked excitement and hope in the community.
The scholarships come as a relief to families grappling with financial hardships.
Samson Odyek, a resident of Bakwogo “B” Cell, shared his gratitude, saying, “This opportunity means the world to us. Many of us thought furthering our studies was out of reach due to financial challenges, but Ogwal Atin Acan has changed our story.”
Bruno Munu, from Agweng “B” Cell, confirmed that the students will begin their journey by on January 8th, 10th and 12th, 2025, marking the start of a brighter future.
Jimmy Rogers Omara, Speaker of Agweng Town Council, urged other leaders to follow suit.
“This is the kind of leadership we need-leaders who take action to improve lives,” he said.
Omara emphasized that the scholarships are not limited to Agweng but are available to other students from the Lango Sub-region.
Benard Ogwal Atin Acan has made education a cornerstone of his vision for Erute North.
His commitment extends beyond Agweng Town Council, with over 100 students from Ogur, Aromo, Ayami and Agweng benefitting from similar scholarships in 2024.
“My goal is to empower the youth through education, support widows and uplift the elderly as part of a broader fight against poverty,” Ogwal said.
Ogwal Atin Acan’s actions have made him a formidable challenger to incumbent MP Christine Akello (Gwok Adako Dang Mako) in the upcoming elections.
For the 31 students from Agweng Town Council, this scholarship represents more than just financial support-it’s a chance to dream again.
