Bishop Wanok Urges Unity and Teamwork at Fr. Dr. Samuel Okori’s Silver Jubilee: “The Power of Christ Is Best Realized Through Collaboration”

Oyam, Uganda –  Atapara Secondary School grounds in Oyam District came alive on Friday, 6th December 2024, with celebration as Lira Diocese gathered to honour the priestly silver jubilee of Rev. Fr. Dr. Samuel Okori, the Medical Director and CEO of Aber Hospital.

The event, marked by heartfelt tributes and spiritual reflection, was presided over by Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, Bishop of Lira Diocese, alongside Rt. Rev. Dominic Eibu, Bishop of Kotido Diocese.

In his keynote address, Bishop Wanok underscored the transformative power of teamwork in achieving both spiritual and community development.

He praised Fr. Okori’s unwavering commitment to charity, brotherhood, and service, urging Christians to emulate his example.

“Fr. Okori’s life reminds us that the power of Christ can only be harnessed when we work together with a shared vision and purpose,” said Bishop Wanok.

He highlighted how the collaborative efforts of Aber Hospital’s staff, benefactors, and boards have led to remarkable advancements, including the installation of a CT scan and the expansion of specialized medical services.

Fr. Okori’s leadership at Aber Hospital was a central theme of the celebration. Hon. Jovino Rose Akakai, head of the Lay Apostolate in Lira Diocese, commended Fr. Okori’s sacrifices and influence describe him as a beacon of inspiration for young people pursuing vocations in priesthood, religious life, and community service.

“Fr. Okori has sown seeds that will yield fruits for generations. His work extends beyond medicine—it touches the moral, spiritual, and psychosocial well-being of our communities,” Akakai noted.

Echoing these sentiments, Dila Benson Walter, Chairman of Oyam District, described Fr. Okori’s transformational leadership at Aber Hospital as a testament to his dedication to service.

He called on the community to embrace teamwork, forgiveness, and resilience to address challenges.

Representing the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church, Sr. Liberata Mandhawum described Fr. Okori as a “dedicated servant of God and his people,” leaving a lasting impact on the diocese.

Similarly, Mr. Edward Okori, Prime Minister of the Arak Oyakori clan, lauded Fr. Okori as a valuable member of their clan, serving the universal church with humility and purpose.

Reflecting on 25 years of priestly service, Fr. Okori expressed gratitude for the journey, acknowledging the challenges and milestones that have shaped his ministry.

“As a hospital director, my role has been to understand the needs of the community and ensure that Aber Hospital remains a beacon of hope and health for all,” he shared.

Fr. Dr. Polycarp Opio, Chairperson of the Lira Diocesan Priest Association, praised Fr. Okori for his enduring pastoral care and spirit of goodness, which have positively influenced the diocese and beyond.

The event concluded with a call to action from Bishop Wanok, urging the faithful to adopt the spirit of teamwork exemplified by Fr. Okori and Aber Hospital’s staff.

As the celebration ended, it was clear that Fr. Okori’s silver jubilee was not just a personal milestone but a moment of collective inspiration for the diocese.

His life and work stand as a testament to the transformative power of faith, service, and unity.
