Otuke, Uganda — Alumni of Adwari Secondary School have rallied together to save their old dormitory block, now in urgent need of repair.

Okello Walter, the chairperson of the school’s fundraising committee has made a heartfelt appeal to former students, local leaders, politicians and well wishers to join in raising 100 million Ugandan shillings.
The funds are needed to stabilize and repair the deteriorating dormitory, ensuring a safe space for students.
Initially, the alumni had intended to fundraise for a new computer laboratory, but the worsening condition of the dormitory demanded immediate action, Walter explained.
“As alumni who once called this school home, we cannot stand by and watch the building collapse. We are stepping up to address this crisis before focusing on other projects,” he said.
The response from alumni has already been promising, with contributions totaling 1.4 million shillings, along with pledges for an additional 3 million shillings.

Many are contributing by donating a bag of cement, showing a growing sense of solidarity and dedication to preserving the school’s legacy.
Retired headmaster Otim Tom, a former leader of Adwari Secondary School, expressed his appreciation for the alumni’s commitment.
In a message to the school’s alumni group, he praised the Old Boys and Old Girls for their determination to restore the school and urged them to carry on with their efforts to return Adwari Secondary School to its former glory.
Despite attempts by reporters to reach the current headmaster, Ocen Newton, for comment, he was unavailable.
Adwari Secondary School alumni committee remains optimistic that the community, local government and other well-wishers will join the fundraising effort, allowing the dormitory to be renovated and ready for use by future generations of students.
