Lira, Uganda | Management at Adyel Boarding Primary School has launched an urgent search for a specialist Social Studies (SST) teacher after the subject dragged down the school’s overall results in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) released by UNEB.

Speaking to our reporter, Headmaster Isaac Otoa revealed that the school fell short of its target of producing more than 100 pupils in Division One, mainly because of poor performance in SST. “Only 2 candidates scored a distinction in SST, compared to 49 distinctions in Mathematics, 43 in English, and 27 in Science,” Otoa said.

He noted that the school’s overall performance dropped sharply from previous years, with SST identified as the weakest link.

“As a school, we have quickly pinpointed this gap and we are now bringing in a resource person who will equip our children with the right skills to tackle SST questions and improve in other subjects as well,” the headmaster stressed.

Despite the dip, Adyel Boarding Primary School still emerged as the best-performing PLE primary school in Lira City in the 2025 PLE.

Otoa attributed the strong overall showing to the high level of discipline among the learners.“Our secret has always been discipline. We shall continue mentoring these children, instilling good morals and ensuring they fully benefit from the expertise of the new resource teacher so they can become responsible leaders tomorrow,” he added.

The headmaster also praised the parents for their unwavering support.“The parents of Adyel Boarding Primary School have shown tremendous energy supporting the school both financially and in kind. We urge them to keep up this spirit so that together we can shape a brighter future for our children,” Otoa said.

Meanwhile, according to Otoa, the school management has rolled out several development projects to create a more conducive learning environment. These include repairing dilapidated buildings, fencing the compound, constructing new toilets, and building staff houses.

In the 2025 PLE, Adyel Boarding Primary School registered 49 candidates in Division One and 100 candidates in Division Two, a clear demonstration of its continued dominance in Lira City PLE schools despite the challenges in SST.

The school says it remains committed to excellence and is determined to reclaim even higher glory in the coming years.
