Alebtong, Uganda | Police in Alebtong District are investigating a suspected murder after a 29-year-old woman was found dead inside a house in Amugu Town Council.
The deceased has been identified as Apio Evaline, a hairdresser and resident of Te-Cuk Cell, Okum Ward, Amugu Town Council.
According to the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident is alleged to have occurred on February 23, 2026, at an unknown time, but was reported the following day at about 11:00am at Amugu Town Council Police Station.
Police said officers responded to information about a suspected murder and found the body lying inside a house belonging to one Abago Catherine. Bloodstains were observed in the sitting room where the body was discovered.
A team from Alebtong Central Police Station, reinforced by a canine unit from Dokolo, examined and documented the scene. The police dog reportedly tracked a scent from the scene to the residence of Engunyu Isaac, 27, a welder and resident of the same area, who was later arrested to assist with investigations.
Preliminary examination of the body revealed visible injuries, and it was conveyed to Alebtong Health Centre IV mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Okema noted that although there has been an increase in murder cases in the region in recent months, the incidents remain isolated in nature and do not in any way undermine the general peace and security prevailing within the community, since most suspects are apprehended and made to face the law.
He explained that many of the reported cases arise from domestic misunderstandings, disagreements at drinking joints, suspicions of theft, cultural corporal punishment, land wrangles, and love relationships gone wrong.
Okema further appealed to religious leaders, cultural leaders, civil society organisations, the media fraternity, local leaders, and community members to take keen interest in such cases in order to help curb the vice.
He added that the situation remains calm and under control, emphasizing that the police remain vigilant and that in all reported cases, suspects are promptly identified and apprehended to ensure justice is served and public safety maintained.
Police said investigations into the matter are ongoing and further information will be communicated as it becomes available.
