Lira, Uganda – In a groundbreaking event on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at St. Lira Hotel, Aceng Delight Ruth, a 20-year-old poet and law student at Uganda Christian University (UCU), officially launched her debut book, Beyond The Silence.

The 119-page book addresses the growing challenge of suicide, providing strategies to manage stress and depression while offering hope to affected communities.

The event, which attracted a large audience of university students and local leaders, began at 2:00 PM and concluded at 6:00 PM.

It was graced by Ambassador Julius Peter Moto, who served as the Guest of Honour, and Rev. Patrick Oluge of All Nations Gospel Church, who delivered an inspiring sermon.

Delight, born on November 7, 2005, shared her motivation for writing the book, describing the alarming increase in suicide cases as her driving force.

“Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in society today, yet it remains largely unaddressed. This book aims to shine a light on the issue and provide practical solutions to reduce its impact,” she explained.

Rev. Oluge, referencing Genesis 1:1, encouraged the youth to embrace and utilize their God-given talents for the betterment of their communities.

“Each of us has unique talents, whether it is writing, singing, or athletics. We must put these gifts into action to make a difference,” he said.

He further urged religious leaders to identify and nurture such talents within their congregations and called on government leaders to provide the necessary support to ensure these talents flourish.

Ambassador Moto lauded Delight’s efforts, describing her book as an important contribution to societal well-being.

The launch also highlighted the broader need for mental health awareness, with speakers emphasizing the importance of community support for young creatives.

Delight’s achievement was hailed as a significant step in tackling sensitive societal issues through literature.

Beyond The Silence is more than just a book—it is a beacon of hope for individuals struggling with mental health challenges.

It offers practical guidance and a message of resilience, serving as a powerful tool for change.

Delight’s work stands as a testament to the transformative power of youth-driven initiatives and creativity.
