Mbale City, Uganda – A brilliant 61st-minute solo goal from Andrea Noll Ogwal secured a vital 1-0 victory for Black Power over Kataka FC, condemning the home side to their ninth loss of the season and their second consecutive defeat.
The match, which took place on Sunday March 30, 2025, during the celebratory atmosphere of Eid el-Fitr in Mbale City, saw Black Power at second place in the league, just one point behind leaders Buhimba United Saints.
The game was expected to be a high-stakes encounter, with both teams looking to recover from disappointing results.
Kataka FC, fresh off a 2-1 defeat to Buhimba United Saints, hoped to turn their fortunes around in front of their home crowd.
However, they were quickly outpaced by a determined Black Power side eager to bounce back after their own frustrating goalless draw against Boma in their last outing.
The first half was marked by tense moments and missed opportunities from both sides, with neither team able to break the deadlock.
The tension seemed to build as the match wore on, and Kataka fans were hopeful of seeing a turnaround, but it was Ogwal, a recent transfer from Lira City Council FC, who stole the show.
In the 61st minute, Ogwal showcased his immense talent with a stunning solo effort.
He collected the ball midway through the field, expertly maneuvering past several defenders before slotting it past Kataka’s goalkeeper Ronald Nsubuga, sending Black Power supporters into raptures.
It was a goal that not only secured three crucial points but also solidified Ogwal’s place in the team’s heart as he scored his first goal for Black Power.
The goal came as a huge blow to Kataka FC, who struggled to find their rhythm for the remainder of the match.
Despite some efforts to respond, they could not break down Black Power’s defense, and the match ended 1-0, leaving Kataka’s head coach, Toldo Godfrey, facing mounting pressure to turn the team’s fortunes around.
Black Power’s win lifted them to second place in the league with 34 points, just one point behind Buhimba United Saints, who lead the table with 35 points, having played one more match.
With the promotion race intensifying, Black Power will be looking to maintain their strong form as they head into their next match against Kaaro Karungi FC on April 6, in Lira City.
For Kataka FC, however, the defeat adds to their growing concerns. With 24 points from 19 games, they remain in eighth place and will need to regroup quickly if they are to avoid further slide down the standings.
Kataka’s performance this season has been inconsistent, and the pressure on coach Toldo Godfrey continues to mount as the team struggles to find their winning form.
The result also highlights Black Power’s impressive resilience as they continue to make their mark in the league, with Ogwal’s goal proving to be a defining moment in what promises to be a competitive season.
