Former Makerere University Lecturer, who also served as Lira District Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) chairman and also doubles as Awitong of Guna clan, Dr. Okello Dan has notified the public about his intention to contest for Wonyaci (Paramount Chief) of Lango.
Just a day after Owitong held a reconciliation meeting at Margarita Hotel to unite the two factions of Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune and Yosam Odur Ebii, Dr. Okello expresses his readiness to lead Lango as Wonyaci when elected.
Addressing journalists on the 06/11/2023 at Silver Peak Hotel in Lira City, Dr. Dan Okello laid out six powerful things he will do when elected Wonyaci one of them is offering learning opportunities for Owitong (clan heads) to tour very powerful Kingdoms in countries like Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Netherlands, United Kingdom among others so that they gain knowledge which will help develop Lango Cultural Institution faster.

He vowed to strengthen the constitution of Lango Cultural Institution like lowering the minimum age qualification to 55 years for one to be elected Wonyaci and also ensuring everyone above 18 years votes for Wonyaci rather than some few individuals of Owitong in order for the elected person to be owned by Lango and accorded respect.
Other things he said he would do include; establishing agricultural development programs by encouraging locals in Lango to produce both cash and food crops, uniting small clan units comprising of 5 to 10 families back to the original clan, instituting a ten-year rolling development plan for rebuilding Lango like constructing a Palace, and tracing the origin of the tribe right from Abicinia to the current land.
Dr. Okello holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and Public Administration from Makerere University and has served in civil service for 35 years.
While at Makerere, he served as a lecturer for 11 years and traveled to places like Johannesburg, South Africa, and Delhi in India as a visiting lecturer.
He comes from Oketkwer Village, Otara Parish, Aromo Sub-county in Lira District.
