Otuke, District — The construction of Ogwete Seed Secondary School in Otuke District has been delayed due to an ongoing issue with securing the land title.
Local leaders are now calling on higher authorities to expedite the process and ensure the project moves forward.
Okweda Peter, the LC III Chairman of Ogwete Sub County, confirmed in an exclusive interview with our reporter that Lira Diocese had already granted part of Ogwete Primary School land for the construction of the school.
He further revealed that officials from the Ministry of Education had surveyed the land and approved it for the project.
However, despite these approvals, the project has been stalled due to bureaucratic delays in securing the necessary land title.
The LC III Chairman has appealed to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the District Education Officer (DEO), local government officials, and Members of Parliament from Otuke to step in and expedite the process.
Abola Francis, the LC V Chairman of Otuke District, echoed Okweda’s concerns, stating that the district had done everything within its power to facilitate the land title acquisition.
According to local sources, most Seed Schools in Lango region face similar challenges with land titles.
Abola hinted that the construction of Okum Seed Secondary School has been delayed due to limited funding, with the district suspending the contractor to avoid further financial strain.
In Lira City West Division, the planned Ojwina Seed Secondary School is also facing setbacks. A conflict over land ownership between the Islamic administration of Lira has stalled the construction.
The delayed construction of Seed Schools in the region highlights the persistent challenges faced by local governments in obtaining land titles, a crucial step for the development of education infrastructure.
