Alebtong, Uganda – The Government of Uganda has released over UGX 209 million to rehabilitate dilapidated classroom blocks at Aguredege Primary School in Abia Sub-county and Telela Primary School in Apala Sub-county.
The funding, in direct fulfilment of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto, underscores the government’s renewed commitment to revitalizing rural education infrastructure and ensuring that learners across the country access a conducive learning environment.
The launch of the construction works was presided over by top district officials, including: Hon. DK Odongo, LC5 Chairperson, Alebtong District, Mr. Mathias Lutwama, Deputy Resident District Commissioner (D/RDC), Alebtong, Principal Assistant Secretary to the CAO, District Education Officer, Sub-county LC3 Chairpersons, Site Supervision Engineers and Area Councillors.
At Aguredege Primary School, the government injected UGX 100 million to rehabilitate a critical classroom block.
Speaking during the launch, D/RDC Mathias Lutwama emphasized the indispensable role of education in transforming communities and lifting families out of poverty.
“We have reminded the community about the enduring value of education and parentage. The role of parents goes beyond sending children to school—it includes emotional, moral, and academic support to ensure that our children excel,” Lutwama stated.
Meanwhile, Telela Primary School received UGX 109 million to undertake similar rehabilitation works.
The project’s launch was equally successful, drawing hundreds of parents, teachers, and local leaders in a show of unity and shared responsibility for educational progress.
The LC5 Chairperson, Hon. DK Odongo, applauded the government for prioritizing rural schools and reaffirmed the district’s readiness to monitor and ensure quality implementation of the projects.
Both events featured sensitization sessions led by the RDC and education officials, who educated the communities on the critical role of family engagement in achieving academic success.
They encouraged parents to actively participate in school programs and maintain discipline and support for their children.
The latest interventions are part of a broader government agenda to uplift Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools across the country, reduce classroom congestion, and create learner-friendly environments, especially in hard-to-reach and underserved areas.
