Kampala, Uganda – dfcu Bank and Monitor Publications Limited have officially launched Season 7 of the dfcu Rising Woman Initiative, a transformative campaign that continues to uplift and empower women entrepreneurs across Uganda.

The 2025 launch event was held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, bringing together stakeholders in finance, media, and women-led businesses.

Since its inception in 2018, the Rising Woman Initiative has directly supported over 60,000 women through physical engagements and reached more than one million individuals online.

The campaign focuses on business training, mentorship, and market exposure—enabling women to grow sustainable enterprises and contribute to Uganda’s economy.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Gudula Naiga Basaza, Chairperson of the dfcu Women Business Advisory Council, said the initiative is rooted in dfcu’s longstanding commitment to women’s economic inclusion.

“Women are the backbone of Uganda’s economy. They nurture families, drive businesses, and uplift communities. dfcu Rising Woman exists to amplify their stories and support their journey,” Dr. Basaza stated.

She noted that dfcu was the first bank in Uganda to launch a women-focused banking solution in 2007 under the Women in Business (WiB) Program.

The program has since evolved into a full-fledged ecosystem that offers financial products, capacity building, advisory services, and networking platforms.

“This year’s edition is bigger and better. Our message is clear: Let’s Go Further Together,” she added.

Doreen Atuheire, dfcu Bank’s Head of Women in Business, highlighted the strategic direction of Season 7.

“We are not just injecting capital; we are investing in ambition, resilience, and leadership. dfcu believes in every woman who dreams, dares, and delivers,” she said.

According to Atuheire, the initiative will include regional trainings, business proposal competitions, media profiling, and opportunities for winners to travel and learn from successful business ecosystems outside Uganda.

Flavia Tumusiime Kabuura, Head of Broadcasting at Nation Media Group, underlined the importance of media in driving change.

“This initiative expands women’s access to markets and increases the visibility of their businesses. As a media house, we are committed to promoting women’s economic participation through targeted programming and partnerships,” she said.

Flavia emphasized that showcasing successful women entrepreneurs inspires others and challenges stereotypes that limit women in business.

dfcu Bank and Monitor Publications have positioned Rising Woman as more than a campaign—it is a movement to build an inclusive economy where women are active contributors and decision-makers.
