Lira, Uganda – Lira University is edging closer to completing its long-anticipated multibillion shilling Administration Block, offering renewed hope for improved office accommodation for senior staff and leadership.
The project, formally titled “The Construction Completion of the Proposed Lira University Administration Block,” is being undertaken by the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) Works and Engineering Brigade, a subsidiary of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Once completed, the facility will provide office space for the University Visitor (President of Uganda), Chancellor, Council Chairperson, Vice Chancellor, and other administrative staff.
At a consultative meeting held on 30 April 2025 in the Public Health Board Room, the university’s top management, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, underscored the importance of timely completion.
“…This building will resolve the long-standing challenge of limited office space…,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng stated. “…If the Government releases additional funds, we hope to receive the building before the end of this year. The contractor urgently requires financing for steady progress…”
On the same day, a site meeting led by Technology Consults Ltd-the project’s supervising consultant recommended a six-month extension of the contract period to ensure quality and timely completion.
University Secretary Augustine Oyang Atubo confirmed that the university has requested a supplementary budget from the Ministry of Finance to clear outstanding payments to the contractor.
Once completed, the new administration block is expected to greatly enhance the university’s operational efficiency and provide a centralised, modern hub for management and governance.
