Dokolo District Reshuffles Head Teachers to Improve Performance

Dokolo, Uganda – The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Dokolo District Local Government, Godfrey Ogwang Okello, has reshuffled head teachers in the district in a bid to improve pupil attendance and academic performance following a disappointing outcome in the recently released Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Godfrey Ogwang Okello described the reshuffle as a routine process in line with government standing orders.

He emphasized that such transfers are necessary to revitalize schools and enhance performance.

“This reshuffle is normal as per government guidelines. It is aimed at improving academic standards and ensuring better attendance among pupils,” Ogwang said.

District Education Officer (DEO) Eryatu David supported the move, noting that some head teachers had overstayed in their respective schools, which negatively impacted performance.

He explained that long tenures in one school often lead to stagnation, and new leadership can bring fresh strategies to boost learning outcomes.

“This is one of the measures we are taking to address the district’s declining academic performance. Some head teachers have spent too many years in one school, and this affects results. It is important to have a rotation system to bring in new ideas,” Eryatu stated.

The reshuffle has sparked debate among education stakeholders, with some welcoming it as a necessary step to improve performance, while others have raised concerns about the frequent transfer of school administrators.

CAO Ogwang has given the transferred head teachers until January 31, 2025, to finalize the compilation of their reports and make full accountability.

He further directed that they should be ready to report immediately to their new stations after meeting this deadline.

Meanwhile, the affected head teachers have not yet commented on their transfers.

Musafiri Suwed, the Communication Officer for Dokolo District Local Government, confirmed the reshuffle and urged the transferred head teachers to embrace their new assignments with dedication.

He reassured parents and pupils that the changes are meant to strengthen the education sector and improve results in future national examinations.

The reshuffle comes at a time when Dokolo District is under pressure to address concerns over academic performance, with parents and education leaders calling for urgent reforms to uplift learning standards.
