Dokolo, Uganda – Dokolo North County MP aspirant Joseph Jones Ogwal has come to the aid of residents by donating six concrete culverts worth 600,000 shillings to improve the road linking Olemkere Village to Oloro Village in Dokolo District and further connecting to Abako Subcounty in Alebtong District.
For years, the poor condition of this vital road has caused severe challenges for the community.
Residents have struggled with impassable sections, especially during the rainy season when the swamp floods.
This has disrupted local businesses, made it difficult for pupils to access schools and created life-threatening delays for pregnant women seeking medical care.
Responding to the community’s long-standing grievances, Ogwal handed over the culverts on March 1, 2025.
While addressing residents during the handover ceremony, he reiterated his commitment to improving infrastructure and tackling other pressing issues in Dokolo North County.
“Education performance in Dokolo is low, and we must address this urgently. I will conduct community engagements with locals and education stakeholders to develop strategies that will boost performance in the district,” Ogwal said.
He further promised to analyze the root causes of poverty in the district and implement solutions aimed at improving household incomes.
“I will work closely with the people to understand the causes of poverty and create strategies to ensure each household has more income,” he added.
Ogwal emphasized that his leadership will focus on staying connected with the people and solving their most urgent needs.
“I will live among the people and work with them to address their challenges. This is just the beginning,” he assured.
Local leaders and residents of Apenyo Parish expressed gratitude for the culverts, describing Ogwal as an exemplary leader who has already begun delivering services despite not holding public office.
They pledged to support his parliamentary bid, praising his hands-on approach to community development.
“We have struggled with this road for years, and no one has come to our rescue. Joseph Jones Ogwal has shown us that he cares. We will stand with him,” said one community member.
Ogwal has emerged as a strong contender to unseat the incumbent MP, Moses Ogwal Goli.
He is running under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
Other candidates who have declared their intentions to contest for the Dokolo North County seat include Francis Ojok and Fr. Junior Alfred Okello, setting the stage for a competitive race in the 2026 general elections.
Joseph Jones Ogwal continues to position himself as a leader focused on practical solutions to the everyday struggles of his constituents.
