Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Boosts Lira Diocese Multi-purpose Cooperative with Incubator Donation to Fight Poverty

Lira, Uganda – In a response to a plea from Lira Diocese, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Woman MP for Lira City and Minister of Health, handed over a state-of-the-art incubator valued at UGX 6 million to the Lira Diocese Multi-purpose Cooperative Society.

The donation, presented during the second mass at Lira Cathedral, aims to transform poultry farming and alleviate poverty across households in the Lango region.

The initiative, spearheaded by Fredrick Doi, a dedicated Christian and leader of Lira Diocese Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, had struggled to secure support from donors but Dr. Aceng stepped in, funding the incubator herself.

The machine, with a capacity to hatch 2,000 eggs, will support the cooperative’s mission to empower households under Lira Diocese by promoting poultry farming as a sustainable livelihood.

In addition to the incubator, Dr. Aceng contributed UGX 1.5 million as startup capital for the project.

“I commend the cooperative for this visionary approach,” she said, encouraging the community to focus on rearing local poultry breeds, which require minimal maintenance and resources.

Fredrick Doi expressed gratitude for the timely support, emphasizing the project’s ultimate goal of eradicating poverty in Lango.

“This initiative will bring tangible benefits to every household within the Diocese,” Doi said.

Fr. Emmanuel Opio, Parish Priest of Lira Cathedral Parish, applauded Dr. Aceng’s contribution, describing it as a shining example of impactful leadership.

“This is the kind of support that transforms livelihoods,” he noted, calling on other politicians to emulate such initiatives instead of handing out cash to voters.

Dr. Aceng’s gesture has resonated with many in the community, reinforcing the need for sustainable development projects that offer long-term benefits.

The incubator donation symbolizes a commitment to empowering communities through self-reliance, with hopes that this will inspire similar initiatives nationwide.
