Kwania, Uganda | Inomo Secondary School has taken a major step towards improving digital learning by investing UGX 7 million in the purchase of 10 desktop computers, boosting its capacity to implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The procurement increases the school’s computer stock from 11 to 21 machines, providing more students with access to ICT facilities at a time when technology has become central to teaching, learning and research.

Speaking on Tuesday, the school’s headteacher, Joe Robinson Okwir, said the investment was intended to ensure learners acquire the practical digital skills required under the new curriculum.

He disclosed that the school is also expecting a donation of 50 computers from the Mastercard Foundation, a move that would significantly transform ICT learning at the institution.

He added that the anticipated donation would help address existing challenges related to inadequate computer access among learners.

Teachers at the school welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention in the implementation of the new curriculum.

History teacher Kaxson Achato said the curriculum places a strong emphasis on research, problem-solving and independent learning, all of which require reliable access to computers and internet-based resources.

Students also hailed the purchase, noting that the previous number of computers was insufficient for the growing student population.

They said the expansion of the computer laboratory would improve their ability to carry out research, complete coursework and gain practical ICT skills.

The investment reflects a growing trend among schools seeking to strengthen technology integration in education as the country continues to roll out the Competency-Based Curriculum.
