Dokolo, Uganda | Joseph Jones Ogwal has appealed to Christians and Muslims in Dokolo District and across Uganda to use the ongoing Lent and fasting period as a time for deep reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ogwal said the season presents an important opportunity for believers to seek spiritual purification, forgive one another, and rebuild relationships strained by social, political, or personal differences.
He noted that forgiveness and humility are essential values that can help communities heal and move forward together.
Ogwal urged people of faith to go beyond prayer and fasting by demonstrating love through practical actions.
He called on the public to extend support to the sick, the elderly, and other vulnerable members of society, emphasizing that compassion and service should define religious observance.
Addressing Christians, the MP-elect reminded them of their shared identity and responsibility to live in unity, stressing that love, tolerance, and mutual respect are core principles of the Christian faith.
He encouraged believers to be ambassadors of peace within their families and communities.
Speaking to Muslims observing the fasting period, Ogwal prayed that the season would strengthen unity among them, ease the challenges they face, and bring spiritual renewal.
He said fasting should inspire patience, empathy, and a renewed sense of responsibility toward others.
Ogwal further noted that periods of shared spiritual observance offer a rare chance for interfaith harmony, urging religious leaders and followers alike to promote dialogue, understanding, and cooperation.
He said unity among people of different faiths is vital for social stability and sustainable development.
He called on all Ugandans to use this period to recommit themselves to values that promote peace, solidarity, and collective progress, noting that a united and compassionate society is key to building a better future for Dokolo District and the country at large.
